Grade8 Homework - 01 group

We have pushed through the last 2 parts of the Reproduction Unit to end it before Xmas.

Those two sections are:  Pregnancy & stages of development     AND    Contraception(Safe Sex).

Students are to complete the following pages in their workbook:

pages 98 - 99   ;   104 - 105  ;  111 to 113.

The workbook will then be handed in for marking.

We will set the due date by the end of the first week of classes in the new year.  If students wish to hand in their workbook by the end of classes this year, they may.

Students are to complete pages 139 ,  144  &  145 for next class.  Yes, that's tomorrow!

Grade8 Homework - 01 group

Students are to complete pages 98 & 99 in their workbook.

A voluntary RETEST on Cells, Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration will be given over the lunch hours on this Thursday( 19 Dec ) & Friday( 20 Dec );  Multiple choice on Thursday, Short Answer on Friday.

Students wishing to rewrite this test are recommended to study.  I will take the best mark.

Grade 8 Homework

The students finished notes on Photosynthesis and cellular respiration today.

They were given a worksheet to complete - they may use their notes if they wish.

This worksheet will be checked and corrected next class.  It is NOT for marks.

An assignment will follow that WILL be for marks.

Students are asked to bring scissors, glue( preferred )or glue sticks and colouring pencils to next class.

The 03's have a Dichotomous key assignment that was given to them in class today.

If not completed, it is for homework.

If it was completed in class, students are to complete pages 86 and 87 in their workbook.

They will write a quiz on Classification and taxonomy next class.

Students who did not finish the "Illinois freshwater fish dichotomous key" Assignment given in class are to hand it in next class( Tuesday, 12 Nov ).

For next class, students are to have pages 86 and 87 done.

There will be a quiz on Classification and Taxonomy next class as well.

In addition, students must hand in any missing work:

-  Darwin vs. Lamarck Reading Assignment( the elephant worksheet ).

-  Natural Selection game( the dice lab ).

These are needed to calculate an accurate mark for first term report cards.

The grade 8s will write a Quiz on Osmosis and diffusion in their next class.

Monday, 11th November, 2nd period is their next scheduled class, but we will likely be at Remembrance ceremonies at that time.

This quiz will then be bumped to the next scheduled class on Tuesday, 12th November, 3rd period.

Students are to complete pages 66 and 67 in their workbooks( Inputs & outputs of the cell )in preparation for the next topic.

This will not be checked, but will be gone over.  It is important to do this to make the next topic easier.

Grade 7 Homework - 03 group

Over the weekend, students need to work on the following items:

1) finish and hand in the "Darwin vs. Lamarck" Reading assignment - also known as the "elephant ordering" assignment.

2) finish the "Natural Selection" game questions on the back of the long paper.

3) think about how you organize your . . . closet, binder, locker or other area where you keep a collection of items.

Grade 8 Homework

Students wrote a test today on Chemical and Physical changes.

Several students were absent due to a school trip.  These students will write the test at lunch over 2 days - 1 day for the multiple choice, and a second day for the short answer.

Mr. LeBlanc will arrange to have these students write Thursday and Friday lunch hours.

The homework from this class is:  
1)  finish the Osmosis lab writeup.
                                                         
2)  answer question on pages 66 and 67 in their workbook on osmosis and diffusion.

The above homework will be checked and corrected on Monday, 4th November.

Grade 7 Homework - 01 group

This group finished "playing" the Evolution game in class today.

Their homework is   1)  to answer the questions found on the back of the playing sheet.  It is due next class:  Friday, 1rst Nov, 2nd period.

Their next bit of homework is   2)  to think about how they organize their . . .  locker, closet, binder or other physical space at home or at school.  The conversation that comes from this will start our next topic.

3)  Students who did not hand in the "Darwin vs. Lamarck Reading Assignment" should also complete it and hand it in on Friday as well.

Grade 8 Homework

Monday's class was a bit of a catch-up:  students handed in a lab writeup due from last class, then answered an individual question sheet on the same lab.

After that, we corrected a test they had written, then we corrected pages in their workbook.

With all of that, I did not cover the new material I wanted to cover that class.

To prepare the students for this new material, I have assigned them to read pages 43 to 44 in their workbooks.

Grade 8 Homework - Lab writeup

Last class students performed a "Changes" lab, examining the differences between chemical and physical changes.

The groups of two have to hand in one writeup - given during the class - and submit it next class.

Upon handing it in, each student will then complete an individual writeup assessing their own knowledge of chemical and physical changes.

Grade 7 Homework - 01 group - TEST!!

These students were mistakenly assigned pages in their workbook at the end of class on Wednesday, 2nd October.

I need to retract the above and have them STUDY FOR THEIR TEST!!!!

They are writing a test on Friday( 4th Oct. )on all topics they've taken since September - except Adaptations.

Those topics are:

- Abiotic and biotic factors.

- Characteristics of living things( there are 7 ).

- Water cycle.

- Organization in ecosystems( species, population, community, habitat & niche ).

We have reached a point in the material I feel it's a good time for a test.

I'd like both groups to begin review of all topics studied from the start of the year: 
 - Characteristics of living things,
 - Water cycle
 - Organization of ecosystems( species, population, community and niche ).

The 03's had a supply teacher on Thursday, so I wasn't able to announce a quiz on our most recent topic:  Organization in ecosystems, so I may or may not try to fit it in before the test.

I plan on giving the test late this coming week( Sept 30th to Oct 4th ), before we get too deep into our next topic.

*Whoops!  Looks like I've already decided on a date for the 01 group( see post below ), so we'll set a date for the 03's too - Thursday, Oct 3rd.

This group is to complete the "Water Cycle Experiment" writeup if it was not completed in  class on Tuesday.

The next class is cancelled due to the Terry Fox Run on Thursday a.m.

The next time we see each other will be Wednesday, 25th Sept.  That's 8 whole days away so don't forget your homework!

Gr 8 Homework - Periodic Table Tiles

Students were assigned two atoms / elements from the Periodic Table.

They were to draw "tiles" for each of them to help me create a Periodic Table on a bulletin board in my classroom.
